It is a precipice of clay formation in the river. Every day in early hours, macaws, parrots and other species of birds perform their ceremony of flit before they begin their amazing activity (Colpeo) in the clay lick. In this adventure we will mix the program with the majesty of the Sandoval lake, a paradise surrounded by lot of flora and fauna.
Arrival at the airport or bus station and transfer to the office of Monte Amazoníco Lodge for final arrangements about the tour before leaving to our adventure. In case you have big luggages, we suggest you tore-pack and carry just the necessary things for the trip.
Land transfer (by 4X4) for about 2 hours to our destination on the banks of the Tambopata River, if we go by river it would take more than 6 hours (just for information). From there we will take a boat to the lodge “Monte Amazonico – Tambopata”. Welcome meeting and breakfast or lunch depending on the arrival time.
In the afternoon we will take an introductory walk into the rainforest where we will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles and wonderful insects, among others.
We will wake up very early, at 4:30 am, to go on an incredible journey by boat to the largest macaw clay lick around the world “EL CHUNCHO”, a journey of about 1:30 hours by boat. On the way we will have the opportunity to see some mammal species such as capybaras, which are the largest rodents around the world, tapirs, and you can even see the most beautiful South American feline, the jaguar. Many of our clients are witnesses with photographic evidences of encounters with these beautiful mammals.
After arrival to the macaw clay lick you will see hundreds of parrots of 11 different species that come to eat clay from the cliff over the river. We will settle ourselves in our chairs to wait for the beginning of one of the most beautiful natural ornithological show in the world. Parrots will soon be followed by three species of the most colorful macaws of America. Red and green macaws, Scarlet macaws, and blue and yellow macaws gather on the cliff to eat the needed clay in their daily diets in order to eliminate toxins. On a good day of activity you will see hundreds of these wonderful birds flying over you, an unforgettable experience.
Return to our lodge, breakfast and resting time.
In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to practice kayaking on the Tambopata River where we will move silently along the river, this way we will have more opportunities to observe the largest animals of the Tambopata Reserve.
The night will be off to rest, with possibility of another night walk.
After a hearty breakfast, our boat will take us to our transport back to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the Capitanía port where we will take another boat for an hour to our lodge on the Madre de Dios River. You will be welcomed with a refreshing fruit juice of our region, and accommodation will be given.
After a short rest, we will go for a two hours hike in the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert who will take you through our trails. You will see a variety of trees that can be more than five hundred years old, and you will observe some species of wild animals such as toucans, oropendolas, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc. You will have the opportunity to experience the magic of our Amazon Jungle in the heart of the TAMBOPATA NATIONAL WILDLIFE RESERVE (278,000 hectares protected).
After lunch, we will visit the “Monkey Island” located in front of our lodge across the Madre de Dios River, where we can find different species of monkeys living on the island: the brown capuchin, the white-fronted capuchin, the squirrel monkey and the saddle back tamarin; and return to the Lodge.
In the evening we will go for caiman search, white caimans are typically found on sand banks along the Madre de Dios River. For this activity you will need to bring a flashlight. Also, we may see some capybaras too. Back to the lodge, dinner and rest.
After breakfast we will take a 3 km walk in the dense rainforest to head the Lake Sandoval (piranha habitat), one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve, and stroll in a rowing boat where we will appreciate many bird species (hoatzin, cormorant, jacana, puma heron, buzzard), and monkeys (howler monkey, brown capuchin monkey, tamarin), and even sloths. We may meet with the family of giant river otters (almost two meters long), a species in danger of extinction, or a black caiman, of which the largest individuals are more than 4 meters long. Return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch from the region.
At night we will take one more opportunity to walk where we can appreciate a diversity of species of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal animals. Dinner and rest.
5.30a.m. We will take a short walk in our canopy walk-way of 30 meters high, allowing us to appreciate nature from as high as possible. We will also have a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River. From the platforms we will be able to observe different species of birds, including toucans, macaws, tanagers, oropendolas, for sure it will be a wonderful experience.
Breakfast and return to the city, transfer to the airport and/or bus station.

Not included.- Bar consumption (alcoholic beverages), entrance fee to the Tambopata National Reserve US $24.00.
IMPORTANT.– We recommend to bring repellent, flashlight, binoculars, personal items, sunscreen, hiking shoes, long T- shirts and pants.
4,798Hectares inside the rainforest. In the jungle the rainy season is between November and April which affects the weather, it turns warm and wet, with temperatures that range between 25°C y 40°C and the 99% wet. Between June and November there is an atmospheric phenomenon locally known “El Friaje” or the low temperatures where the weather changes all of a sudden and in few minutes the temperature decreases to 5°C that can last the whole day.
We provide our customers three foods daily: *Breakfast: 5:30am and 7am *Lunch: 1pm and 2pm * Dinner: 7pm and 8pm and if they want, the Bar service. The Buffet service in the Lodge is available since 15 people. Otherwise the service will be served in the table and the foods consist of salads, main courses and desserts mixing the country, peruvian and international cuisene. Also we offer fresh water, coffee or te, and fruit beverages in meal time. The additional orders of fruit beverages, juices, bottle water and sodas will be charged. It is recommend that you let us know if there is any meal requirement, allergies or special diets, just to avaoid any kind inconvenience. In case you have children, we recommend you to contact the Administrator for the final food arrangements.

We offer exotic beverages to satisfy our customers likes, for your safety and others customers safety: It is not allowed neither drinking nor organizing parties in the rooms after the Bar closes (10pm). *You will be throw out with no change to claim in case this policy is not fulfilled.
