Day 1

Upon your arrival at the airport or bus station, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to the Monte Amazonico office for registration. If you have large luggage, we suggest repacking and taking only what is necessary. We will then travel by 4x4 vehicle for approximately 2 hours to the banks of the Tambopata River, where we will board a boat to the Monte Amazonico - Tambopata Lodge. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a warm welcome and shown to your rooms. Lunch will be served. In the afternoon, we will embark on an introductory hike into the tropical rainforest, where you will have the opportunity to spot animals in their natural habitat, such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects, among others.

Day 2

We will wake up early at 4:30 am to depart towards the world's largest macaw clay lick, COLLPA CHUNCHO, on a boat journey of approximately 1.5 hours. Along the way, we may have the incredible opportunity to spot species such as capybaras, the world's largest rodents, and tapirs. If we're lucky, we may even catch a glimpse of the most beautiful South American feline, the jaguar. Breakfast will be a camping-style meal. Upon arrival at the macaw clay lick, we will witness hundreds of parrots of different species coming to feed on clay from the adjacent riverbank. We will settle into our seats and wait for one of the most spectacular bird shows in the world to begin. The parrots will be followed by the three most colorful species of macaws in America: the red and green, blue, and yellow macaws. Watching them feed on clay, an essential part of their diet and toxin elimination process, is an unforgettable experience. On a good day, you may see hundreds of these magnificent birds flying overhead. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Afterwards, we will return to our lodge for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, our boat will take us back to Puerto Maldonado, and then we will transfer by boat for 1 hour to Monte Amazonico Lodge - Sandoval Lake and settle into our respective rooms. In the evening, we will go in search of white caimans, which are usually found on sandbanks in the Madre de Dios River. We will need a flashlight for this adventure. We may also spot capybaras, the world's largest rodents weighing up to 60 kilograms. Afterward, we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3

After breakfast, we will hike for 3 kilometers through the dense tropical rainforest towards Lake Sandoval, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. We will take a rowboat ride on the lake, where we will have the opportunity to observe a wide variety of birds and monkeys, such as shanshos, cormorants, jacanas, tiger herons, vultures, cotomonos, monk sakis, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths. We might even encounter the endangered giant otter family, which can grow up to 2 meters in length, and the largest recorded caimans measuring over 4 meters in length. We will then return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch. After a delicious lunch, we will return to the city and transfer to the airport and/or bus station.
